Nineteen Rooms. One Village. A Lifetime of Character.

A period home of Sherwood sandstone, set in the heart of one of Nottinghamshire's most beautiful villages. Where intimate care meets timeless character.

A Period Home with Heart

Sherwood House is a beautiful period property with high ceilings, original features, and the warm honey tones of Sherwood sandstone that define this part of Nottinghamshire. Set on Main Street in the village of Linby, it has been a place of care and community for nearly three decades.

With just 19 en-suite rooms, this is deliberately intimate. Our staff do not simply learn residents' names — they learn their stories, their preferences, their sense of humour. It is the kind of home where the piano room fills with music, where afternoon tea is served in the garden, and where the chef knows exactly how you take your eggs.

Operated by NCHA, a not-for-profit housing association, Sherwood House does not work to generate a surplus. Every pound goes back into the care of residents and the upkeep of this remarkable building.

Care Shaped Around You

Every care plan at Sherwood House is built around the individual. We listen first, then create support that preserves independence, dignity, and joy.

Residential Care

For over-65s who need support to live well. Our approach centres on maintaining independence and personal choice, from daily routines to hobbies and socialising. With only 19 rooms, our staff build genuine relationships with every resident — creating a family atmosphere where everyone is known and valued.

£1,300 per week · £100/week supplement for larger rooms

Respite Care

Short-term stays for when families need a break, or when someone needs temporary care following a hospital stay. Respite residents receive the same warmth, attention, and activities as permanent residents — whether for a week or a month. It is also a wonderful way to experience life at Sherwood House before making any long-term decisions.

Good food brings people together. Our in-house chef prepares seasonal weekly menus with restaurant-style dining and multiple choices at every meal. Residents describe the food as “lovely” — and with a small kitchen available to residents and guests, there is always a cup of tea on the go.

Activities range from card games and crafts to community events like PappFest and summer fetes in the garden. Our Pet Pals programme brings visiting dogs for animal therapy, trained local volunteers provide befriending, and the extensive gardens — complete with summerhouse and a Japanese-style bubbling fountain — offer a peaceful retreat in every season.

Where Sherwood Sandstone Meets the Warmth of Home

Sherwood House is not just a care home in a village. It is a village care home — woven into the fabric of Linby, a place of medieval crosses, sandstone cottages, and water channels that have run along Main Street for centuries.

Linby is a charming Nottinghamshire village of just 676 people, winner of “best kept village” in 2013. The River Leen winds through it. The 13th-century Grade II* listed St Michael's Church stands nearby. The famous “Linby Docks” — sandstone-lined water channels — run alongside the very road where Sherwood House sits.

The building itself is a period property with high ceilings, original character, and the warm stone that gives this part of Sherwood Forest its name. With 19 rooms, staff do not just care for residents — they truly know them. It is boutique care in a picture-postcard setting.

“Our aim is to ensure everyone is happy, safe and cared for in the way that they choose.”
— Hannah Owens, Home Manager

Period Character, Modern Comfort

High ceilings, original features, and Sherwood sandstone — paired with 19 fully en-suite rooms, a sunny conservatory, and beautifully maintained communal spaces.

Extensive Gardens

Mature gardens with a summerhouse, a Japanese-style bubbling fountain, and planting restored by the Gray's Trust. Afternoon tea in the garden is a Sherwood House tradition.

Intimate by Design

Nineteen rooms means staff truly know every resident, building a family atmosphere that larger homes simply cannot replicate. Couples can stay together in double rooms, and family overnight stays are available.

Not-for-Profit Care

Operated by NCHA, a housing association that does not work to make a surplus. Every pound is reinvested into the care of residents and the home itself.
